It’s hard to read the papers and not be sold on the importance of education in STEM. So what role does the humanities and social science have in the education of today’s students? A new book by George Anders argues that we must not discourage folks from majoring in liberal arts, as these careers sharpen critical thinking skills and help develop skills in a variety of new professions.
As someone who’s worked in a variety of positions, I believe it’s best to follow your strengths, but make sure you get a well rounded education, even if some courses are an uphill battle and take you out of your comfort zone. Professional fields are constantly evolving so it’s important to be prepared for any opportunities that may arise.
