Seattle Tutoring Services Math Scholarship

A Scholarship for anyone who has struggled with math

The Seattle Tutoring Services Math Scholarship was created to recognize the struggles of students in math courses and encourage students to create a new and more successful path.

As a math tutor, I realize studying math isn’t always fun. Getting stuck on homework problems, failing class, and struggling to get satisfactory standardized test scores can lead to frustration. Unfortunately, this can limit academic and professional opportunities in spite of students often being perfectly capable of excelling in math coursework and the professional fields that demand these skills.

Construct an essay that discusses your struggles in math and how you overcame them or plan to overcome these challenges. Some examples include:

  • Finding a study group
  • Getting assistance from teachers, counselors or tutors
  • Preparing for upcoming courses with workbooks or reviews of prior courses
  • Finding inspiration and motivation by learning about opportunities that math coursework provides or learning about people who have overcome adversity

Requirements

Applicants must be high school students entering first year of college or current undergraduate students at any accredited U.S. college, university or trade school.

Please limit your essay to 500-1000 words. Submissions shall be submitted as text, word doc or pdf via email: scholarship at tutoringservicesseattle.com.

Essay Due: December 31, 2016. Scholarship will be awarded on January 31, 2017.
