We are picky when it comes to tutors. In the most recent application cycle, we received 149 applications, plus five we directly recruited who had not applied, and hired two total.
How did we pick those two? Over six years of experience running a business I’ve taken the following approach:
experience working w/ kids or young adults as an instructor
top grades in classes they’ll tutor
an interview
two references checked
thorough background check
Ask other companies if they check references and how many. Ask them what type of background check they do–does it include misdemeanors? Does it include checking the sex offender registry? If you hire a tutor directly, do you do the same screening of checking two references and a background check that includes misdemeanors and sex offender registry?
Our reputation is very important to us and we don’t take shortcuts.
